Despite having only entered service during the course of the last six months, the -300ER has already established itself as one of the most attractive widebodies on the market, following the success of the B777-200ER. The twin-engine design coincided with the development of much more reliable engine technology. Without reliable engines, a long-range twin engine was neither practical nor economic. Only in the late 1990s did the concept of fragmentation become a reality.
