Market Presence. The B787-8 has sold in reasonable numbers with the orderbook totaling 423 of which 332 have been delivered leaving a backlog of 91 units. Yet, between March 2016 and March 2017 there have been only nine new orders for the B787-8 compared to 39 deliveries. This compares with 81 orders for the B787-9 and 113 deliveries. The market has therefore clearly moved to the larger offering. The residual values of the B787-8 have previously exhibited above average strength due in part to the corrosion avoiding composite airframe, long term fuel efficiency, and long range performance. The B787 has seen a number of engine improvements and accounting for these changes is of importance.
