Aircraft Asset Assessment

February 22, 2016

Market Presence. As with the ATR42, orders for the ATR72 proved elusive in 2003 but improved in the last few years by a significant amount. The orders for the -600 now amount to more than 487. Production of the ATR72-600 has been increased and the backlog now amounts to move than 240 aircraft which equates to at least 2-3 years production. Production is set to increase to nearly 100 a year. Approximately 247 ATR72-600s have been delivered. The seeming appetite and prudence of operating turboprops is now being matched by the number of orders for new aircraft. While the increase in the number of new orders is certainly refreshing for the manufacturers the quantity involved remains limited when compared to those placed for regional jets and mainline narrowbodies.
