Market Presence. The -500 has a limited market presence though there are over a 100 operators of the type with many operating less than five units. With dozens in storage and scrapped, the market for the type is limited. In contrast to the B737-300 and -400 there is also no appetite for freighter conversion. Values and lease rentals of older B737s face identical problems to other types, the B737-500 being just as much a commodity as the MD80 series. The limited onward operator base and the replacement of a large number on the market in the coming years provides sufficient cause to be aware that the type is no longer suited to asset based financing.
